LINX® Reflux Management System

Do you suffer from GERD?

If you experience gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), then you are likely familiar with symptoms like chest pain, heartburn (which can be worse at night), trouble swallowing, chronic coughing, and sleep disruptions.

While occasional acid reflux is common, GERD occurs at least twice per week and can be mild or severe.Sometimes, GERD cannot be managed with over-the-counter medications or lifestyle changes.

Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) occurs when stomach acid frequently flows back into the tube connecting your mouth and stomach (esophagus). This backwash (acid reflux) can irritate the lining of your esophagus.

The LINX® Reflux Management System

When you swallow food or liquid, your lower esophageal sphincter (a circular band of muscle) relaxes to allow the food or liquid to flow into your stomach. The sphincter closes afterward. But with acid reflux, the sphincter relaxes abnormally, and the stomach acid flows back up.

The LINX® system consists of a flexible ring of magnetic titanium beads. It’s placed around the esophagus to support a weakened esophageal sphincter. The strength of the magnets keep the sphincter closed once you are done swallowing. but temporarily opens so that you can swallow normally. It’s an FDA-approved and minimally-invasive option for restoring the natural barrier to stomach acid.

If you are unable to manage GERD, the chronic inflammation in your esophagus could lead to further problems. While not every patient is a candidate for LINX®, your doctor can help determine if you would be a good fit. The procedure is completed in under an hour, and routine activities can be resumed in just a few days.
